It irks me that she feels the need to say this - so up and coming actresses may look at her and think, well she doesn’t need this, maybe I shouldn’t either.

She could have just said something neutral about the importance of having them available when needed, or she could have just said nothing.

But why isn't she allowed to say she didn't enjoy working with one and prefers not having one? Is there really only one opinion people are allowed to have on this? She's not saying they shouldn't exist or any gross stuff about needing to be "spontaneous".

Oh, stop. You’re just trying to start something and I can’t be arsed. You know why.

No, I don't know and I'm not sure how I should know. And I'm not trying to "start anything", I just think not being able to share different experiences of doing sex scenes in movie is not necessarily the optimal attitude for healthy work environment.

I can respect not being arsed, though.

But why isn't she allowed to say she didn't enjoy working with one and prefers not having one?

Of course she is allowed to say what she wants, but she is a very respected actor and this line could easily be used against someone new in the business.

She has been in the business for well over 20 years and media training on such a sensitive subject should be used. Broadway has had intimacy supervisors for decades now and they are fine.

I ask actors to be more mindful of serious subjects like this.

Films existed for decades before nudity or sex scenes. I like the fade to black. Julia Roberts had the best line about why she never did nudity in the 90's. I thought ONTD hated method acting and that is all nudity in film is.

‘I wouldn't do nudity in a film,’ she says. ‘To act with my clothes on is a performance. To act with my clothes off is a documentary.’

idk I think what she said is perfectly fine. She's specifically talking about her own situation but also didn't disparage them or their usage. There's also the qualifier that she trusts the people she works with so it hasn't been an issue for her when specifically asked about them. It's the hot topic right now. I don't think she just started talking about them randomly out of nowhere.

She shared the experience she had because she was asked in an interview.

She also said this “They hired an intimacy coordinator - I didn’t want to talk to her, because I felt, between Antonio and Colin, completely safe. There was a lot of trust. And I knew the crew, and that was my team,” she said. “If I’d been with other people where I didn’t feel as comfortable, I probably would have welcomed her there. But I just I felt so secure in our world that I didn’t feel the need for her presence.”

She's entitled to her own feelings and experiences, and she's supportive of that role...she's speaking only for herself as a veteran actress, she has a right to make the correct choice for herself.

“If I’d been with other people where I didn’t feel as comfortable, I probably would have welcomed her there. But I just felt so secure in our world that I didn’t feel the need for her presence.”

“It really is there as a safety net,” she said. “I’ve worked with some wonderful, wonderful people and I have felt so safe. So it’s not always a necessity, but it’s there if you need it.”
