The episode that lives rent free in my mind is the one with Pruitt Taylor Vince where he sees the screaming ghost things and tries to give Scully a lobotomy. I don’t think I saw it when it was first on, as I wasn’t a regular viewer, but I watched the whole series maybe 10 or 12 years ago with my daughter and that episode scared the shit out of both of us. We watched again maybe a year ago and it’s still scary. The images in the Polaroids, him chasing Scully on the painting stilts, him in that little caravan with the dentist (or whatever they were?) tools ready to “save” Scully - it’s just so visually effective.
This episode is also the reason why to this day I will check under a parked car before standing close to it for any length of time.
