I was waiting for this post! I even made my own because I was so WTF??

I can’t believe he’d walk away from this to do Superman… Has he not been reading the DC/WB news lately??

I don’t see the show lasting past season 4 tbh.

I wonder if it is contractual?

Like his WB/DC contract takes precedence? (Maybe that contract has him for 7 movies or whatever and he'd always have to prioritize filming those over filming the Witcher which will just not work for Witcher's filming schedule/production)

No, he has no WB contract. They quit making those movies for the reason. Man of Steel only made $43 million profit on a budget of $220M. That's not a ratio that inspires an immediate sequel.

It looks like he's been talking to WBD for the past month since he filmed his Black Adam cameo, and they said in order to go forward, you have to quit Witcher, so we have access to you for filming a Superman movie. Kind of a prove your loyalty kind of thing.

He only had a 3 season contract with Witcher, and he already signed up for that Guy Ritchie WWII movie that will film from January to June. WBD needs time to get a script and director, but it appears they want to fast track Superman since David Zaslav believes in milking the top 3 DC characters.

Right? Especially since this was supposedly his passion project since he loved the video games so much

it def reads as PR spin to justify whenever he bailed on the show...which is now

i mean it makes sense seeing that the series has totally diverged from the books/games and changed so much stuff it’s almost unrecognizable.

i can see this being creative differences between henry (a purist) and the writers (casual fans if at all) as much as contractual/superman bullshit.

Maybe Gunn and the other guy sold him on a good Superman deal? IDKY he can't just do both. He's physically great as Clark/Supes but his movies are boooooooooooring.

It tells me season three was bad. rumblings were that he wasn't happy with season two, I think he makes it work with DC if he's on board with the Witcher creatively. He was enough of a geek about this show and also a workaholic that I think he'd have made it work. Seasons 4-5 were just announced to be shot back-to-back, I wonder if that was figured out before or after this decision was made.

Interesting. I know the show is definitely a departure from the books and games so I get why fans and he might be upset. Maybe he feels like this isn’t what he signed up for.

Even if that were true, he had the power to change that. They could’ve easily switched showrunners to somebody who would bow to him, it’s way less drama and nobody is going to pay as much attention. But the face of the show leaving? It’s 100% his career taking president and not ~unhappiness over the direction.

I mean it could be a combination of things honestly but I do think if he was really into the project he would still be there. His comments have been lowkey shady since S2 about the writing.

I think it’s just frustrating because it sounds like everybody is shooting themselves in the foot. Netflix, him personally. Clearly something could’ve been worked out and they all chose to not to. Nobody looks good in this. IDK. As a fan of the show it just stinks all around. 😔

mte he was so in love with this show and worked so hard for it, it makes no sense to me why would he leave. It's nagl. I doubt that they just fired him over creative differences cause that's risky af. And it's still very risky, I don't see this show past s3 and I really want it to succeed, especially for the rest of the cast and Anya <3
I'm also afraid they might have casted Liam cause he's famous~ instead of going for a more accurate but probably unknown actor that would be more suitable than Geralt.

I really really really hope Liam will do a good job but I doubt it (to be fair Henry's acting range isn't remarkable but at least he looked like Geralt).

You’re right, the casting really is a shame. Having to find a “name” because a huge swath of “ fans” won’t watch it without a celebrity. (Also my god, Liam feels so young, that’s really my issue. He’s gotta look older then Ciri… sigh.) I hope for the best. It would be nice to have somebody who actually has chemistry with Yenn, and doesn't treat Jaskier with distain.
