i did not read the pics in this post (typical) but i do kind of wonder if the keanu and salma stuff are just throw away sentences in a bigger work that's more meaningfully focused on addiction and recovery. but i think that's me giving him too much credit tbh

It's about his struggles but he also talks about a lot of people. He threw Valerie Bertinelli under the bus by sharing how he once made out with her next to her passed-out husband. Also, said he went on a date with Cameron Diaz and she got stoned and punched him in the face.

It's looking like a messy and depressing book

Ugh that’s so gross. He should have kept those names anonymous- both because it’s bad to out someone like that but also for the publicity! If he kept those names secret we’d all be gossiping about who they could be instead of talking about how much he sucks.

“If he kept those names secret we’d all be gossiping about who they could be about instead of talking about how much he sucks.”

Tbh I don’t get complaining about how horrible these stories are, but then going on to basically say they’d be cool and fun stories if they remained nameless. He shouldn’t have shared the stories at all and leaving the names out doesn’t make it better. In fact, I’m not sure it wouldn’t have been worse, with people speculating who it was and people likely getting wrongly fingered and gossiped about

I feel like he still has a lot of shame regarding his addiction that he has not processed. So while he’s sharing his story it seems like he isn’t actually emotionally ready for it (maybe he was pressured to write something by his agent since he doesn’t have much else going for him?) so he’s thrown in these messy bits about others, maybe to make himself feel better. Like, see, I’m not the only messy one!

I completely agree especially after he said he's only been sober for 18 months. It's good that he's reflecting on his addiction but I feel like he should've waited a couple more years at least.

I don't like him but it was really sad when he said the Friend's cast don't care enough to read his memoir. He also talked about how he thinks he's broken and unlovable and how he's never experienced real lasting happiness and as someone who's had dark depression episodes I hope someone is checking on him and I hope he gets serious therapy.

I saw this quote: “Every doctor says it's a Hail Mary. No one survives that. So the big question is why? Why was I the one that survived? There has to be some kind of reason."

I am not sure what it is in the book, but Keanu also did hard drugs with River from what I have read. I think it’s really a question of how do some people get by without the same issues (Keanu) and why did he develop addiction issues yet still survive? Nevertheless, the framing of that question and the use of Keanu’s name is in poor taste, but I am imagining (key word being imagining, since I’m not entirely sure) that is what his sentiment is.
