Follow up to this post.

To celebrate Filipino History Month, I put together a list of Filipina actresses, musicians, and other celebs. There are far fewer surprises on this list than the previous one (the roller coaster of Enrique Iglesias is a tough act to follow). Let's celebrate these talented Filipinas!

More under the cut... )

vampire diaries / the originals (cw), broadway / theatre, television - showtime, star trek, lgbtq film / media, asian celebrities, high school musical (disney), ontd original, olivia rodrigo, 1980s, animation, television - disney+, actor / actress, 1990s, hailee steinfeld, marvel, music / musician (pop), nicole scherzinger / pussycat dolls, pretty little liars (freeform), vanessa hudgens, justin bieber, soap opera

I hardly even know anyone in the list 😬

Does anybody have any favorite filipino food? Where did you get it? What made you like it? I'm curious what non-filipinos have tried and actually like to the point that they eat it at least once a month.

A few years ago, I went to my filipino friends party and she made this really delicious pork soup with noodles and crispy, fried pork rinds on top. She told what it was called but I can't remember. I crave that every now and then.

or was it just watery broth?

It was a thin, dark broth with noodles that were almost like ramen noodles. There was vegetables in it too.

Yes this is exactly what she told me it was!!! I could not remember that for the life of me. Thank you!

I haven't had Filipino food in a long ass time. When I was a kid the daycare I went to had a Filipina carer. She'd bring in lumpia and pancit all the time and tbh, I've never forgotten the taste. It's one of those really early food memories that stuck with me.

Lechon is legit but I live in Sweden now where there are VERY few Filipinos.

oh my god, i love filipino food. i'm half, so it's what i grew up eating because my mom is a great cook, who learned from my grandmother who had a restaurant in the Philippines. my favorite is palabok. Also really love sinigang, lugaw (similar to congee), adobo, sisig... i could go on! i love almost everything!

My neighbor sells palabok for breakfast! I haven't had it in months bc of fasting. My favorite is pinakbet and pair it with any fried fish or meat.

I guess I'm biased because I love my mom, but the restaurants I've been to can't cook chicken adobo the same way she can. She also makes pancit with glass noodles (most places I've been to use egg noodles, which are also good!)

I think the beauty [but at times disadvantage] of adobo is that it's the simplest thing to cook, but everyone's version just varies. And for sure, a 5-star resto won't compare to what we grew up with.

The only time I was super awed by someone else's adobo was in an eatery [carinderia] in Pagudpod. Till now I can never forget how amazing it was. Just the sauce on top of steaming white rice was heaven!

same with us here! we have different versions of adobo depending on what's available at home. Although I like mine really spicy and with less sauce it's almost dry.
