"Survive Style 5+" Japanese film about 5 wild, interlocking stories including a man who keeps killing his wife (who keeps coming back to fuck him up) a murderous advertising rep, a man who gets hypnotized and thinks he's a bird, a group of teens robbing houses where two of the members might secretly be in love with each other, and a hitman. Both Tadanobu Asano and Vinny Jones is in it, lol.
The second is "The Holy Mountain" and that film...is a lot. It's stunning and fucked up at the same time.
I loved all the stories. The scene where the wife comes back to life and cooks him a huge breakfast before commencing to beat his ass always makes me laugh, plus I love their house.
Oh my god... I never had this thought, but now I can't un-imagine it!! Asano rocks suits, knows his action, slays a suave scene... what more do they need?!
I've only ever seen Asano in Love & Pop (I loved this movie but it's not an easy watch, especially his role) yet I feel like I know too much about him because he seems to exclusively go after girls in the niche music scene I follow, a lot of DJs for some reason. He just married one this year, actually, 18 years younger than him. The announcement threw me for such a loop because I've watched her come up over the past decade and I did not see this in her future.
I think it tracks because he also DJs (electronic) when he's not doing punk with SODA! or drawing his weird DigMan comic. ngl I do side-eye him for marrying such a young woman, but I never heard anything bad about him, he appears to have a good relationship with his daughter... so idk. I love his on-screen work, he's one of my favourite actors, and that's what I try to focus on.
Yeah, I did hear that about him and was surprised that he has so much going on in different fields. He's just a typical man, I guess? The way he cheated on Chara with Diana Chiaki and then on Diana with Naka Riisa who he met through her was low to me. But I hope Kurumi is happy with him for how long they've been together now, even if I side-eye how young she was when they started dating.
The Holy Mountain is amazing but it would NEVER be made in this day and age, plus it still makes religious people mad as hell.
The Cell is stunning too. I remember when the movie first was released it had a Flash Website where you could take a test and find out what mental "quirks" you had, lol. I loved Jennifer Lopez looks were so pretty; the scene where she dresses up like the Virgin Mary and makes a peaceful place for the boy always makes me cry.
She has never looked as gorgeous as there, neither in a movie, nor in real life. I know a person, who was forbidding her children to play with Barbies, and when they were given one as a gift by unknowing friend, she would tear of their heads and let them play with those only, so they had a basket of Barbie heads at home. And I always thought, DID NOBODY SEE "THE CELL"?!!
In my defense I was going through some things emotionally at that time, and people being soft and good for a change really set me off. She looked so warm and comforting too, it just really appealed to me.
You don't have to defend yourself. I don't even think she LOOKED comforting, I think she WAS comforting there. Her character felt genuine compassion towards the boy, and there's nothing wrong with that.

On that same thought The Cell to me is visually gorgeous, but the movie itself is messed up.
