As a hairdresser I always warn women who has long hair who wants to go Uber short, that their entire haircare regiment and lifestyle is going to change.

With short hair you will have style it more, wash it more and trim it more. Long hair can get away with oily roots cuz you can just throw it up into a messy bun or chignon and it’ll still be chic. With short hair you can rock oily roots with dry shampoo two days tops maybe 3 but that’s pushing it.

Ok am I crazy for not getting how wearing one’s hair up extends time between washes? Every time I’ve tried that I feel like the greasy roots are way more conspicuous!

It’s all in the right products love. Also darker hair can pull off oily roots, whereas lighter hair it is more noticeable. If you have blonde hair or slightly darker use some dry shampoo and texturizing spray at the roots before putting it up in a ponytail. For darker hair; same thing use some dry shampoo but also a bit of styling wax or gel to tame the fly-always or the frizz at the hair line.

Personally, when my hair is up from day 1, there's less movement and me running my hands through my hair, both of which seem to contribute to my hair looking oily quicker.

Oh and I also forgot!!

Here’s another trick; brush your hair out with a boar bristle or nylon bristle paddle brush before putting it up. A lot of times the oils usually settle only at the roots, so it looks the most greasiest and shiniest their.

By distributing the oils down the hair shaft, not only are you moisturizing the hair follicles with your natural oils but it also works as a product. That’s why it’s easier to put your hair up with dirty hair than with clean hair lol.

I actually loved it short but my hair became super curly when I cut it and all the straightening was crazy. I had very loose waves if that at shoulder length and became orphan Annie when I went super short.

Yeah the upkeep for a pixie cut is pretty intense. I went pixie a couple of years ago and I have Asian hair - which means a lot of natural body at the root - which means my hair sticks up like a chia pet lol. It was a major bitch to tame my cowlicks during the pixie period of my life lol 😆

i truly do not understand people who say that short hair takes up less effort and they can just 'get up and go.' like it 100% seems like it'd take more effort. at least with long hair you can put it into a ponytail or bun if you wanna be quick.
