• A little bit over a week ago, the New York Times ran a piece on twenty-five year old Kaelee Overfield (@kales_0 on TikTok) where they declared that she was "The Lesbian Perez Hilton of TikTok" (apparently that's supposed to be a compliment?)

• Overfield has been breaking down gossip and drama happening in the WLW sphere for two years now but broke out over the summer by covering the "lesbian breakup apocalypse." NYT says that we should all, "think of her as TMZ but exclusively for queer internet news."

• The article notes that Overfield has her detractors on TikTok. Apparently Overfield was accused of antisemitism for using audio from a scene from Dance Moms to describe an ongoing drama. Overfield confirmed in the article that she does not plan to apologize for that video.

• Another part of the profile takes the time to include a comment from a TikTok user on one of Overfield's recent videos. In it, Overfield is speculating on the sexuality of a celebrity and the user wrote, "we literally cancelled Perez Hilton for that."

• Overfield says that she sometimes receives messages from subjects who want Overfield to stop posting about them, and that she considers it and sometimes takes it down but only because she knows, "the next day someone’s going to break that promise and post something. And I feel like when that happens, I’m back to my free rein. I’ll stop if you guys are going to stop. But if you’re going to feed the internet and give it views of your breakup, like, why can’t I use it too?”

• The article notes that dissecting lesbian drama on TikTok has become a burgeoning industry, with some users dusting off knowledge from old forums to give lessons on the web of lesbian relationships in Hollywood. Another user declares herself "a lesbian DeuxMoi" (again, we're supposed to think that's a positive comparison?).

• Where does Taylor Swift fit in this? If you don't know by now, there's a Larry-esque conspiracy about Swift. It's the usual "she's secretly married to Karlie Kloss, no actually to Diana Agron. Joe is her beard, no wait actually they're mutual beards and they're both gay and Karlie is in a lavender marriage and Taylor is giving us easter eggs about when she's going to come out, not like that last time we thought it was happening this time it's for real!" type of situation. This subsection of her fandom, commonly known as "Gaylors", have been more emboldened and validated since Rolling Stone and Nu-Gawker have both recently posted stories about the conspiracy, and convinced themselves that Swift would be coming out on her new record Midnights because a rumored track was titled "Lavender Haze"

• Swift reveled the rest of her tracklist on Friday morning and did in fact confirm that her album featured a track called "Lavender Haze" and spoke about the origins of the song in an IG reel. In the reel she says she first heard the term used on Mad Men and when she looked it up she saw it was a term mostly used in the 1950s to describe being in the early, hazy stages of love.

• Swift says the song is about wanting to stay in that stage of love once the world finds out about a relationship. She says, "I think a lot of people have to deal with this now, not just "public figures," because we live in the era of social media and if the world finds out that you're in love with somebody they're gonna weigh in on it. Like my relationship for six years, we've had to dodge weird rumors, tabloids...and we just ignore it. So this song is sort of about ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff."

• Those last two sentences caused the Gaylors to completely melt the fuck down. Instead of thinking about why they instantly thought of themselves when Taylor mentioned her relationship being the center of "weird rumors", the Gaylors started making posts about how that sentence was in fact homophobic because it paints a target on the Gaylors backs. Gaylors are feuding with "Hetlors" a term originally used to describe Swift fans who do not believe the Gaylor theories and it has also recently become a term that also applies to people who are annoyed by the constant theorizing about Swift's sexuality.

• There were hundreds of videos made where Gaylors were claiming that they were cancelling their Midnights pre-orders and were shifting focus to supporting queer artists because Swift because was homophobic and was in fact queerbaiting because lavender is a "queer color" due to its association with queer resistance, something that Swift should apparently be aware of after Googling the phrase "Lavender Haze" once. Hetlors did in fact start to make videos pointing to the "weird rumors" part of Swift's reel to reaffirm why they didn't believe in the Gaylor theories.

• No one took it further than Overfield though. Overfield starts the two minute long video (captioned "blondie just cancelled lgbt history month,") by speaking directly to Swift "on behalf of the most accepting sector of your fanbase," and saying that she's very upset by the commentary on "Lavender Haze."

• Overfield takes issue with the reference to "weird rumors" and says that Swift and her boyfriend Joe Alwyn are so boring and are rarely seen in public so that the only rumors plaguing the two are engagement rumors and rumors that Alwyn is Swift's beard (those are not the only two rumors plaguing the couple, Gaylors do seem to think that rumors of Swift's sexuality are actually more mainstream than they are).

• Overfield sees the comment as Swift launching a direct attack on Gaylors. A minute into the video she says, "us Gaylors, we are Ukraine, Taylor! You just handed Russia nuclear bombs!"

• Overfield then goes on to quote a line from 1989 deep cut "New Romantics" where Swift sings "the rumors are terrible and cruel/but honey, most of them are true" and references a weird ass Rolling Stone article about Gaylor the outlet published a day before Rolling Stone ran an exclusive about Midnights.

• Overfield continues her rant and says that Swift sees Gaylors, "get bullied every day for standing up for our community for standing up for YOU as part of our community, even though you've never publicly admitted it to the straight people at least because you've been queerbaiting the FUCK out of all of us."

• She goes on to complain about how Gaylors have not been posting on TikTok because Swift "TOOK OUR GAY FUCKING COLOR AND GAVE THEM AMMO TO BULLY US" and "backed the Hetlors with this and ruined every theory about this album being gay." Overfield also claims that Swift was gaslighing Gaylors who were saying that Swift was making them "feel crazy" for believing the theories.

• Screams some more about lavender being a gay color, and saying that Swift was wearing "gay as fuck outfits" during her "Midnights Mayhem with Me" videos and that Swift had been queerbaiting since "You Need to Calm Down" and walked Gaylors into a "cage" and "took a shit on" them with this "Lavender Haze" reveal.

• Overfield ends the video by saying that Swift had once said that no one should be embarrassed about the things they're interested in, and that Swift shouldn't mention any "weird rumors" because, "[Gaylors] are interested in the fact that you've dated women, but your straight fans call [that] a rumor which you just told them that was weird."

• The video currently has 15K likes, and most of the comments are positive towards the video because Overfield has been deleting negative comments and blocking people who are calling her out for her inappropriate comparison to the Russia/Ukraine war. Overfield has turned off stitches and duets, but the video has been screenrecorded and criticized by various users, not just Hetlors.
