Marion Cotillard and Juliette Binoche started the trend in solidarity to the Iranian protests over the death of Mahsa Amini, passing away under custody of Iranian authorities, and the imposed use of hijab.
Quickly other actresses such as Penélope Cruz along with Maribel Verdú, Emma Suárez, Kira Miró, Cayetana Guillén Cuervo, Ariadna Gil, Elvira Mínguez, Amaia Salamanca, Elena Rivera, Adriana Ozores, Goya Toledo, Natalia Verbeke, Alba Flores, Isabelle Huppert, Charlotte Rampling and Charlotte Gainsbourg, joined. The videos are featured on Instagram account @soutienfemmesiran, which roughly translates to “supporting women in Iran”.
Amnesty international has declared that at least 52 people have died and hundreds have been injured during the movements.
