People are talking about his performance AND him wearing a fat suit so he didn't get off scot-free.

I know; I'm rooting for him too.

I got the impression that this writer knew all of that was Whoopie but decided to make that "fatsuit" comment anyway to be shady so fuck her, really.

Yeah, everything I have heard about that movie makes me want to stay a million miles away.

Everything I've heard about the movie sounds awful. I know one person at TIFF said there was a scene where he drops his keys and can't get them and the audience was laughing.

It sounds like all the worst stereotypes about fat people and as much as I love Brendan Fraser, I won't be giving this movie my money. I don't need to see yet another piece of media that portrays fat people as self hating binge eaters living sad little lives.

apparently it's okay that brendan wore a fatsuit bc he was fat once?

And it's just one of the criticisms you can talk about when talking about the movie. But I'm still rooting for Brendan my many years of devout loyalty are too strong which makes me want to ignore stuff but i can't entirely.

Not trying to get into the fat suit issue but Brendan wasn't fat, he is fat. His weight is still very much a topic of conversation.

I still would like someone to share how in the world any actor at any starting weight could transform into 600 pounds to do a movie about someone who starts at a weight and gains several hundred pounds. Not just fists beating on tables.

I feel like using The whale as an argument against fatsuits is a pretty unrealistic take. We're talking about a character who, at the very the least, would have major mobility issues. I'm very much against fatsuits when you're talking about someone like, let's say, Sarah Paulson playing a character an actress 50 pounds heavier than her could've played. When you're talking about 600lbs, it's a whole different issue. Ignoring the nuances in this discussion benefits absolutely no one tbh.

I recently saw a video about the movie about Pam Huff played by Renee Z. They would have cast another actor for that role easily it seems. It also depends on the actor, I think Renee owns some of it for saying sure, I will wear a fat suit.

Thank you! People just want to see everything in black and white.

i'm sure there's a lot to criticize about The Whale, but the stuff about Brendan Fraser's body is really uncomfortable considering he's struggled pretty publicly with his weight.

Yeah. I think the movie still has issues in how it depicts fat people, but Brendan Fraser is a fat man and idk how people forget that. I don’t even believe he does any of the physical work on Doom Patrol as that body stand in is not his. It’s very likely due to how much surgery he’s had, but yep.

Brendan *is* a fat man, and he does have some mobility issues due to the injuries sustained thanks to the third Mummy film. They had to essentially reconstruct his body.
