Constance Wu for the NY Times

Sep 27, 2022 10:51

The NYT print headline is prob more accurate to the content than the online version’s headline. Oh & it’s not really a memoir, but a book of several standalone essays. Thank u @Thessaly for writing w/ honesty, integrity & compassion https://t.co/2HyQWxYbse pic.twitter.com/BxGHp4XnLp

A bit confused, as didn't the crew members and costars say she was rude, especially to the crew? Or was all that made up or what?

they did and gemma chan "fat fingered" a tweet about it. i think it's both true that she was harassed and that she was terrible to other people.

Agreed, it’s very possible that both things are true

Yashar Ali tweeted that--and Gemma Chan liked the tweet, which a lot of people took as confirmation, but even if so, that's one person's experience and from what I've learned via other ONTD fam is that she's a Depp supporter so maybe not being liked by her is a badge of honor.

Not to mention Yashar Ali is a grifter and abuser, so I'd take anything he says (especially in judgment of someone else) with a heaping of salt.

Honestly, Gemma liking that tweet combined with her stance on the Heard/Depp trial makes me completely discard anything she has to say about someone else. Just based off those two things, she seems like someone I would not want to interact with.

yeah plus there’s too many in hollywood who prize public ass-kissing over giving a fuck about the safety of other minorities/women so

Gemma was also caught a little later doing coke with Lily James in the park during the pandemic so yeah

my pandemic safety assessment brain honestly read this and instinctively went “well, at least they were outside, and we know outdoor transmission is far less likely than indoor transmission, so if you’re going to do coke in the pandemic, the park is probably your best option.” interesting thing to learn about myself.

What helped fuel the rumor was that people saw that Gemma Chan liked a Yashar Ali tweet that read “anyone who has worked with Constance Wu knows she’s rude etc…etc”.

Given that Gemma was her co-star on Crazy Rich Asians it gave credit to the rumors. Gemma later backtracked and said there’s no drama or beef if you’re looking for it. But it didn’t work since apparently no one else from the CRA or FOTB cast stood up for her.

Last post Constance mentioned that some of FOTB cast members were aware that she was being harassed by this producer but continued to be chummy with him, so there’s that.

I honestly feel both things are true. She probably was rude but also she was being sexually harassed by this producer.

"I honestly feel both things are true. She probably was rude but also she was being sexually harassed by this producer."

This^! It sounds like she only realized she wasn't handling it as well as she thought she did until she went to therapy, and she's holding herself fully accountable for her own actions.

which is more than what most celebs do after they fuck up, this was a refreshing change from the Notes app apologies full of I'm still learning and Sorry if you were offended.

Like I'm one of the least forgiving people I know but shit, I'm baffled as to why some people still don't believe she deserves any grace.

I don’t know if anyone she worked with actually came out and said she was rude, but there were a lot of vague rumors about her attitude after her tweets. I think the main reason people believe the rumors is because no one she worked with stood up for her after she was getting blasted on social media. People took it as confirmation of the rumors.

Afaik most of the tweets saying she was rude and difficult has been deleted except one which I linked in the previous post. That person worked with her on season 1 and claims she's doing this for book sales and blaming her for being vague about the who sexually harassed her while subtweeting about her on Twitter.

This is the lastest tweet

The actor’s book publicity tour continues:

Talk sexual assault ✅
Talk sexual harassment ✅
Talk suicide attempt ✅

Boy. Sounds like a fun read. 😏

In all seriousness, if you’re trying to sell books in 2022, maybe, I don’t know…lead with events that… aren’t traumatic?

wow, fuck that guy! also i'm like baffled at how someone could sound so smug being so wrong re: "if you're trying to sell books in 2022, maybe lead with events that aren't traumatic" - given that i'm currently reading michelle zauner's memoir, which opens "ever since my mom died, i cry in h mart" and spent a year on the NYT bestseller list. (and is great. highly recommended to anyone who loves to cry about their complicated but vibrant relationships about their moms. if turning red and/or everything everywhere all at once made you cry this book probably will too!)

This is such a cruel tweet, I'm clutching my pearls a little. Don't know who he is and hope it stays that way. What an asshole.
