I've never been an Avatar fan but this is funny to me because James Cameron is the most disliked director in Hollywood. He's so disliked that the gossip in 2009 was that the Academy gave the best director Oscar to his ex-wife, Kathryn Bigelow, just to spite him.

He had been nominated for Avatar, and the other tea is that Bigelow isn't well-liked either, but he's so hated, they wanted to stick it to him by rewarding her.

Why is he so disliked? I feel like there are shittier directors out there

He's not even CLOSE to the most disliked director in Hollywood, what are you even talking about

You can read what this entry is about, right? He's literally taking credit for building a large part of the Fox lot. The man has an ego the size of Texas.

He's always like this. The biggest know it all, claiming credit and expecting to be worshiped. He has zero humility. Some directors can be difficult on occasion, he's difficult all the time.

I didn't say he wasn't an asshole. I'm disputing your comment about him being the most disliked director in Hollywood. He's an egotistical dick, yes, but he's an egotistical dick who has made studios a TON of money, and that's really all that matters to them.

Scroll down and look at the clip of Tina and Amy saying his wife deserves an award for surviving the three years of torture that being married to him was.

That was at an industry event--it illustrates how the industry as a whole views him. It's such common knowledge that they could make him the punchline.

if he was that hated he wouldn't have been nominated, come on. he has a reputation of being a jackass, but since when does hollywood care about that?

The people who have to work with him care about it, and they're also the Academy voters. His film was nominated for several reasons, in spite of him, not because of him.

His casts hate working for him AT THE TIME (see the T-shirts they had made after The Abyss: 'I survived working with Jim Cameron') ... but a lot of them come back for more films with him, and respect the results of his methods, so he can't be that bad.

Lol, actors are gluttons for punishment. They go back because it helps their career. They get more attention being in his films, it's a sacrifice they make to get ahead. He's still the worst.

That's what I said: He helps their career, and they obviously don't care about his 'reputation' if it doesn't prevent them from working with him more than once...

'The worst' would be somebody who puts you through Hell, WITHOUT elevating your career. Maybe somebody like Michael Bay, who - like Cameron - has a reputation for being a dick, but doesn't have the same level of critical success.

Thank you! This was at an industry event--it perfectly underscores how he's viewed within the industry. They really can't stand him.
