I saw Jaws on National Cinema Day for $3 and it was great! I’d seen it a million times on tv but never on the big screen. Spielberg is really unparalleled for his story telling vision matched with plausible effects. Of course the shark is fake and some breakdowns can point out all the mechanics but the way it was filmed was so seamless that you feel it’s REAL. Sold out cinema and really fun watch.

I watched Elvis on HBO and I loved it and I hated it. Like viscerally. Both. The performance scenes were electrifying. Overall it was uneven. I got bored at times and the exposition scenes dragged some. Austin Butler smashed it. The young boy who played child Elvis was also great. Channeling the stage presence of Elvis was something else. Otoh I can’t believe I’m going to say this but Tom Hanks was awful. I can’t decide if it was bad writing or bad casting or bad acting. His accent and fat prosthetics were so distracting and cartoonish. Teared up at the end. The real footage of Elvis in his last performances were terribly sad. I didn’t remember he died at the young age of only 42. What his life could’ve brought us had he not been exploited by the vultures who only wanted his money and kept him drugged up and artistically suffocated. Beautiful man tremendously talented.

And I watched Look Both Ways on Netflix. I miss rom-coms but also maybe I don’t realize how many are out there I just feel like they’ve been pushed out for comic book stories. I thought the story was easy breezy. Lili has a cute screen presence. Lili and Danny (the baby storyline), they had great chemistry. Lili and the other hot guy (the non baby storyline), they were ok too and he was super cute. It wasn’t groundbreaking and average I guess, but it was an easy watch. Moral was make a five year plan and take risks -ha. Your journey may go sideways, but stay focused and you’ll get there, somehow, lol. Also I was a sucker for one of the endings because I was rooting for that to happen.
