I actually feel SUPER bad for Florence here. He has a long track record of harassing women which includes targeting his female co-stars. Didn't he himself say that Mia Wasikowska was on the phone begging her agent to do something because she was scared of him and most of their scenes were together on the set of Lawless?

I don't know if the stuff of FKA twigs being scared of him on their publicity tour was out there when Olivia cast him but the stuff with Mia and his problems physically attacking Tom Hardy were 100% public and it seems like Florence was already uncomfortable with him from he jump. :/

i don't doubt shia was an absolute menace to florence and she felt unprotected and unsafe. which is why olivia saying to shia that this is a "wake-up call" for florence is insane

Yeah, I know he's playing a character, and it's a really intense movie to begin with, but the sex scene in Pieces of a Woman made me exceptionally uncomfortable.

florence did have a post about how excited she was to work with shia but clearly as soon as they were actually working together she found it uncomfortable. looks like olivia sold it as her protecting florence when in reality she tried to keep shia.

Thats why I'm confused. Everyone knew what a liability Shia was well in advance of being cast in this, but he's claiming he never met Florence as she was taking a break between filming (Black Widow I assume) before making herself available for rehearsals. From what he's saying, he was annoyed that she wasn't available for rehearsals and thats what the tension between them is about, rather than any actual incidents that transpired from them working together. Yet it seems like the scheduling should have been sorted by Olivia rather than dropping the blame at Florence's doorstep which is what she seems to be doing in her contact with Shia.
