my biggest exposure to the addams family was the 90s movies and despite the father being named GOMEZ and the actor being named RAUL JULIA, my brain defaulted them all to white until talk about this new series started

Goth nerd here, with the Addams info: The original cartoon didn't give any of them first names. When the OG tv series happened the cartoonist was asked for a first name for the father and he suggested Gomez or Repelli. John Astin (the actor who played him in the show) decided on Gomez and that he was from a Castillian Spanish family. So, going by that Gomez is not Latino, but Spanish. However, personally I think both Astin and Raul Julia were fantastic (and very different!) Gomezes, and it's weird that anyone would have a problem with a Latino actor playing him. All that I care about it whether Gomez and Tish have magical chemistry with each other.

It doesn't bother me that they cast a Latino actor as Gomez.....it's the specific actor they cast. I just don't see him being able to pull off the suave devotion Gomez has for Tish. Gomez has never been a traditionally attractive man, but he just has an aura, and charisma, and absolutely worships Morticia and you can see why she would be with him.

I just don't see that coming from this casting.

The thing that gets me is that Gomez is a last name, at least as far as I know, never seen it used as a first name at all
