Actresses respond to Sean Bean's comments on intimacy coordinators

Following Sean Bean's comments (original post here) on intimacy coordinator, several actresses took to Twitter to respond.

intimacy coordinators establish an environment of safety for actors. i was extremely grateful for the one we had on WSS- they showed grace to a newcomer like myself + educated those around me who’ve had years of experience.

spontaneity in intimate scenes can be unsafe. wake up. https://t.co/bpxT2DVU1R

It should only be technical. It's like a stunt. Our job as actors is to make it not look technical. Nobody wants an impromptu grope...

Imagine showing up to set to film a scene where you’re partially clothed (and let’s be real it’s usually the woman) in front of 50 plus crew and your scene partner’s like “no need to rehearse let’s just wing it!” WTF

uncomfortable because it’s VULNERABLE. intimacy coordinators make us feel safe. please for the love of god think before you speak.

Lena Hall, who Sean Bean co-stars with on Snowpiercer and was referred to in the interview by Bean: "I suppose it depends on the actress. This one had a musical cabaret background, so she was up for anything" responded to his comment in the following twitter thread.

1. The infamous mango scene wasn't a naked scene. I was "naked" (but not really naked) in the bathtub/suicide scene (which I guess is in that same moment) but Sean Bean was in the bathtub fully clothed in a tuxedo.

3. Sean is an awesome actor and made me feel not only comfortable but also like I had a true acting partner in those bizarre scenes. It was us against the world and we were gonna tell that story.

5. I feel that when an actor has to do a scene that is extremely emotional (like committing suicide or being raped) there needs be some kind of mental health person available to talk to post shoot. Even though we are only acting we are still experiencing trauma.

6. I do feel that intimacy coordinators are a welcome addition to the set and think they could also help with the trauma experienced in other scenes. Sometimes you need em sometimes you don't but every single person and scene and experience is different.
