The celebs who have racked up the most carbon dioxide emissions this year using their private jets
Kylie Jenner was branded a "full time climate criminal" just last week, but it turns out she doesn't even break into the top ten of celebrities with the worst CO2 emmisions from flights in their private jets. Sustainability-driven digital marketing agency
Yard found that the average celebrity has emitted 3,256.36 tonnes of CO2 this year alone, which corresponds to more than 465 times the average person flying commercially. Here are five of the biggest offenders of CO2 emissions through their private jet usage:
10. Travis Scott
Emissions this year: 3,033.3 tonnes
Scott's flight time for 2022 is 8,384 minutes (5.8 days) on his private jet. Average flight journey is just 7.31 miles, which roughly corresponds to a 10 minute car ride.
9. Oprah Winfrey
Emissions this year: 3,493.17 tonnes
Oprah has taken 68 flights on her $75 million jet. Her CO2 emissions correspond to 499 times more than the average person. Shortest flights on record include 14 min from Van Nuys, CA to Santa Barbara and a 16 min trip that resulted in 1 tonne of CO2.
6. Steven Spielberg
Emission this year: 4,465 tonnes
Spielberg's emissions come from over 61 flights this year, which correspond to 637.9 times more than the average person. The renowed director's shortest flights include a 48.5 mile trip from Amsterdam to Rotterdam, which corresponds to a 18 min flight.
3. Jay-Z
Emissions this year: 6,981.3 tonnes
Mr. Beyonce has taken 136 flights this year, adding up to almost two weeks in the air. His CO2 emissions are 997.3 times more than the average person. Use of his private jet include 35 mins from New Jersey to Boston, and 29 mins from North Carolina to Ohio. Now, the jet might be in his name but we all know Bey contributed to this number.
1. Taylor Swift
Emissions this year: 8,293.54 tonnes
The White Feminism Queen tops the list with the most emissions. Pollution (Taylor's version)* Swift has used her private jet for a total of 170 flights, amassing 22,923 mins in the air (15.9 days). Her average flight time is 80 minutes, with roughly 139.36 miles per flight. Ms. Swift's shortest flight on record was just 36 mins going from Missouri to Nashville.
