July 15, 2022 LaineyGossip has brought up the giant elephant in the film adaptation She Said's room that is Brad Pitt. The book and upcoming film tells the story of journalists Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, who broke the Harvey Weinstein sex assault scandal in the New York Times. She Said is co-produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B production house.
LaineyGossip notes that Pitt knew about Weinstein circa 1996, and we know this because his then-girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow told him. Furthermore, "At the time, he told Weinstein, “If you ever make her feel uncomfortable again, I’ll kill you.” He was happy to take credit for standing up to Weinstein on behalf of Paltrow, but he never has had a good answer for why he worked with Weinstein twice [afterwards], on 2009’s Inglorious Basterds and 2012’s Killing Them Softly, while with Angelina Jolie, herself another of Weinstein’s survivors."
There is a "naked hypocrisy" in Pitt producing the film about Weinstein and playing the hero, especially since this hypocrisy is never questioned directly to Pitt. LaineyGossip questions if Pitt can back a film like She Said without accounting for his own history with Weinstein.
