The episode was purposely over-hyped by some of the actors and writers in the show in terms of the supposed orgy scenes we'd get that it's actually kind of pathetic. It's already the one of the biggest shows out there. It's not like they needed the publicity. The termite scene in the beginning of the season was way more shocking.

Well you have to remember the actors experience was different. they were there on set for days with naked people and simulated sex acts all around them. I mean they saw all that up close. As well the writers wanted to make sure it wasn't just shock value, so the whole point kind of it was Herogasm as the backdrop for all these character stories starting to cross paths and ramp up emotionally. Which it did. A heck of a lot happened storywise and characterwise.
