June 10, 2022 Chrissy Teigen's online BFF - Yashar Ali - has filed a defamation lawsuit against Los Angeles Magazine 1 year after they ran a 6,000-word profile that he says labeled him as someone who “backstabbed his friends to get ahead” and mischaracterized his “journalistic standards.” Mmkay.
In the piece, titled "The Curious Rise of Twitter Power Broker Yashar Ali," LA Magazine delved into his career and personal life and painted a negative profile of Ali’s work ethics and detailed his various relationships with celebrities and politicians, including comedian Kathy Griffin.
Journalist Peter Kiefer sat down for multiple interviews with Ali for Los Angeles Magazine, but the end result is a story that Ali claims characterizes him as a “shoot-from-the-hip” reporter. In his lawsuit, Ali says the magazine did not assign a fact-checker, which is a regular practice for a story of that length and did not verify any of Kiefer’s allegations or give Ali the chance to disprove any of the claims made in the story.
He also argues that all his answers related to Kathy Griffin were meant to be off-the-record, but Kiefer included that information in the feature, according to the lawsuit filed Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Ali asked Los Angeles Magazine to retract the story, but said they refused.
Ali is suing Los Angeles Magazine for defamation and promissory fraud.
