I can't stand Faith!
Buffy is my fav, and I never forgave Faith for stealing her body among other things.
Plus what she did to Xander and Riley.
It always confused me that people talk about how bad it is to ship Buffy with Angel or Spike, and then ship her with Faith.

Also, my unpopular opinion is that Breaking Bad was boring. I made it through a 1 1/2 seasons before giving up.

It's always been weird to me how most people gloss over just how far Faith went with that body swap.

As for Breaking Bad, the first time I tried to watch, I made it about as far as you did and just wasn't feeling it either. After season four ended and people wouldn't shut up about it, I tried again and got hooked that time and ended up binging it probably as fast as I could. Not trying to convince you that you need to give it another chance or anything, though.

I think maybe because the show did actually touch on how the body swap affected Buffy and Riley, and because it was played as a BAD BAD BAD moment (as opposed to when Spike tried to rape Buffy because of uwu so many emotions).

Not that I think it was handled brilliantly but Faith's arc there always felt like "she is traumatized and has no coping skills. she's at the end of her rope and wants to cause as much pain as she feels" to me. In order for her character to be redeemed, you had to watch Angel AND fill in a lot based on what they implied and I think that was a bummer.

I also think a lot of baby queers had crushes on Eliza and that is totally part of it.

It's been quite some time since I've watched it, but I feel like I remember them not really focusing on what Faith did to Riley, but instead it was more about how Buffy was upset that he didn't know it wasn't her? I could definitely be wrong, though.

Overall I can definitely sympathize with her, I just always thought that episode took it really far. Although I guess that was the point since that's when she then took off and tried to change.

I also think a lot of baby queers had crushes on Eliza and that is totally part of it.

Lol oh absolutely. I almost mentioned in my first comment that I think she often gets more of a pass because she's so hot.

I think you're actually right about Riley. I think he just didn't know how to talk to Buffy about it or reassure her. I rewatch Buffy all the time but not really this arc (and I don't care about Riley/Buffy at all). I think it was addressed in the episode where Jonathan is a badass but I haven't seen it in a while so I could be misremembering.

Yeah, I don't think the show ever really looked at it from a Riley's consent viewpoint. It was very much about how it affected Buffy. I'm not necessarily mad that Riley didn't have some huge trauma reaction to it, but I do think they missed an important point there

I think the mockumentary format was still pretty new at that time, so the novelty of that prob helped its popularity. That formats become so commonplace that I don't think the show holds up as well on its own now for people watching it the first time. I'm sure a lot of its lingering popularity is bc of nostalgia

Breaking Bad is not a bad show, but it is overrated. They never figured out a clear trajectory for Walt's development. Was he always evil and found the drug trade an outlet for his dark impulses? Was he corrupted because he realized he had to play hardball? Or was he ruthful of his participation throughout or only when people he was close to got hurt? You can't fuck that up for your main character. Plus I never bought the purity of the meth as a good enough reason for a bunch of hardened dealers/cartels to put with all the trouble they caused. He's not the only fucking person who knows chemistry.

Too much of it's contrived, too, although I do think the third to last episode is a great bit of television simply because there was absolutely no way the show could have gone any differently and it was refreshing to have it actually go there instead of pulling something out of its ass.

I always thought they were pretty clear about Walt's character development and personality? They showed his biggest weakness in the very first season, when his former business partners offered him a job and to help with his treatments - his pride was always going to be his downfall. He never had to get into drugs, he always had a way to make sure his family was taken care of, but he just had to be the Big Man and do it all himself, and he fell into believing his own legacy and competency in the drug trade very quickly. They honestly spelled it all out pretty plainly, and so him confirming at the end that he "did it for me" because he liked it and was good at it shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone ( ... )
