BECAUSE WE'RE BITTER BOOK FANS, TRENDS!!1! (and i am also a javier bardem hater)

i think visually the movie was great - the sets, the character designs, the costuming, the expadive shots, etc. but a lot of the emotional high points felt flattened. and i think the writers really bungled the part where paul kills jamis; i think they fundamentally misunderstood the fremen and what the purpose of scene was, which doesn't bode well for part 2.

They should have kept the part where Jessica asks Paul "What does it feel like to kill a man?" Argh Peter Jackson would have for sure!

I say this as someone who loved the film btw but I see where you're coming from 🥺

it's not even just that. the fact he bests jamis and cries in front of the entire sietch is the whole point of the duel, it's only then he gains the trust of the fremen. it's a huge turning point in the story.

the way they set it up in the movie is that everyone in the sietch will just have to take stilgar's word for it? it makes no sense.

That's also a fair point. I just hope they get the ending right and don't portray Paul as a hero or saviour. For me that's the whole core of the story, that he's a tragic hero/false prophet who uses everything and everyone to his own gain. Like they change that and everything will just fall apart
