I barely watch them anymore because it increasingly feels like the show itself/hosts hate movies. Like you don't need to kiss up to celebs or whatever but can you at least pretend to enjoy and want to celebrate the movies that are nominated -- since you nominated them -- instead of constantly joking about how they're unwatchable? There's been a strain of that that's been there for years but has gotten so much worse in the last 10, culminating in the exclusion of the technical categories and this year's entire show.

"Wow, a movie that's 3 hours long in a different language, SOMEONE WATCHED THIS?? LOL"

We'd host a better show.

The Oscars used to be about a love and respect for Hollywood movies, and the host was meant to lightly roast any self importance without denigrating the stars or the product.
But ever since the Golden Globes court jester, Ricky Gervais, the fashion is to go hard from the podium for the sake of virality.
So here we are. Or rather, here y'all are, because I don't watch any awards show now. They all are so try hard and I don't give a shit about the comic emceeing, I care about the work and craft being celebrated. And that no longer happens.

I stopped watching bc it was uncomfortable watching the show insult the people who make and love movies.

It's kinda wild they insist on a new producer each year instead of letting someone grow into it like the article says.

The Governors Award honorees presenting is an interesting idea too.

It has always been weird that they don't premiere major trailers and news during the broadcast. I wonder if there's a reason for that.

I'd LOVE if the turned the Oscar nominations into a Prime time event.
