The villainization of public school is so frustrating. Like yea, there are valid criticisms but I'm not really hearing those, these people just want to control everything.

There are legit people who have ideas to make public school better, but people like Kirk Cameron just wanna hold kids hostage in ignorance to be "trained" to follow in their crazy religious parents' belief systems. Homeschooling in this country is a free for all. There's no real monitoring of curriculums or home situations. SO much abuse takes place.

One of my college friends was home schooled but by the opposite of Republicans she was part of the unschooling world.

There are always outliers, but generally speaking, homeschooling is a tool for anti-science Christians who believe in corporal punishment to take great advantage of because the laws are so lax.

an extreme example, but the turpins were able to keep their abuse of their children a secret in large part because of the extremely lax supervision/oversight of home schooling.

Yup. They really push for charters and home schools. The local charters are dumping tons of money into our areas district elections.

They push charter schools in part because they can make *millions* of dollars from them.

They don’t want to eliminate public school. They want to defund public school so it’s awful and ineffectual and then make it so only people who can’t afford private schools go there. It’s all about gatekeeping quality education to try and push the poor further down and make it harder to organize against them.

It makes me so upset. They’ve never managed a classroom of 33 students yet think they’re experts at teaching.

The dumber the populace, the easier it is to control the populace. Republicans wants to privatize everything so they are the only ones in control of anything. It's been their endgame since Black people got too "uppity" for their liking. Then women gained financial independence in the 70s and well, they couldn't have that either. It's been a methodical assault ever since.

1000% this! Same reason they’ve been going after any kind of D&I in education, marketing it as “CRT” they saw that world wide people marched in the streets for equality and that scared them so much they know they need to make a change

I don’t think people realize the power that the homeschooling lobby has, people who’ve gone against it say it’s stronger than gun or tobacco and that’s saying something. I guess now it’s not enough to be able to indoctrinate their own kids they have to ensure they defund public schools as well
