The only one I really like is Zawe’s, everyone else’s is too much for me tbh.

I don’t want a huge ring, honestly nothing over a carat. And is it weird if I want a gemstone like aquamarine or amethyst for the center piece of it? They just seems so much prettier to me.

nothing says you have to get a diamond, it's just marketing. so is even having a ring in 2022 (I have a diamond ring, full disclosure lol). traditions are meant to be broken.

Gemstones are becoming - thankfully - more common for engagement rings. The primary stone in my engagement ring is a blue sapphire.

I'm not a jewelry person at all. I don't even remember what size mine is but I think it's less than half a carat? It's perfect for me. I've tried my sister's ring on (1 carat ish) and it just looked super out of place on me.

Also definitely not weird to want a gemstone! I originally wanted something colourful, but when my husband was ring shopping, he couldn't find a colour he knew I'd LOVE that would hold up to daily wear. Like I said, I'm not a jewelry person, so I never considered that some gemstones are a lot softer and prone to scratching or chipping? He went with a diamond and I was actually shocked how much I loved it.

I still want to get something colourful for occasional wear, so probably for a future anniversary or something.

I had a ruby and my husband lost my ring down the sink on accident so he replaced it with an Opal. I’m not one off diamonds so I feel you. There’s so many awesome alternatives now.

Mine is a green and yellow sapphire and the only people who thought it was weird are old women. Millennial women and younger will sometimes ask for a closer look and compliment it. I'm in the US, California specifically, and it does seem to be becoming more common around here for women to pick something other than a diamond. My mom lost the diamond in her ring maybe 20 years ago and replaced it with a blue sapphire and my god, the riots amongst the women in our family *shudder*

I have an alexandrite with light-colored sapphires on either side for mine! I love it. :)

the only kind of stone i like is onyx. my partner has very specific instructions for the 'generic commitment*' ring I want (basically Shirley Manson's ring in vids like Only Happy When It Rains but we'll probably have to get it specially made with surgical steel cuz i'm incredibly allergic to metal impurities. Something like this https://i.pinimg.com/originals/7f/99/31/7f99315f606f0e413df523d82079ad21.jpg

*we can't get married bc in my country i'll lose my disability payments if we do. Can't even live together. I'm not taking the risk in case things don't work out, i'll never get those payments back again bc disability is all but impossible to access here now. Thankfully he understands completely.
