Not really... it's more that he has low self-esteem due to his nose and has a major case of unrequited love.

It doesn't. I was sceptical at first too, but since the Lloyd/McAvoy combo hasn't let me down yet, I watched it back when it was on in London and it really worked. I'm actually hoping they'll put it onto NT Live sometime so I can watch it again.

I'm sure if you saw the play, you'd think differently. It's very much a reinterpretation (with a new text too) and works very well. And no matter how hot you think James McAvoy as a person is, his Cyrano is very believable on stage. I also think that we always measure beauty and desirability based on the competition available, and it sure adds to it that the rest of the cast is bloody stunning and James styled pretty meh lol
