• The ending goes in such a completely typical direction that it’s almost more jarring for it. The reviewer found the final minute of the series so abrupt, so hackneyed, so amazingly unoriginal that they thought ( Read more... )

a) this is why heteros are no longer allowed to write queer characters.

b) the article with Laura Neal talking about the last scenes? Phew, she should not be advertising how badly she misunderstood the entire show.

I don't mind bad endings for queer characters necessarily, but Eve and Villanelle were very clearly either supposed to die together or live together, but the coming together of those two characters was the entire premise of the show.

Seriously though, I take down the names of the writers who do this kind of stuff and actively avoid their writing after that. Sally Wainwright is the only screenwriter who has redeemed herself so far.

I screamed over that idiot saying Eve’s scream was meant to be triumphant and now she can go back with the ~normies. We literally spent FOUR SEASONS establishing that Eve is just like Villanelle if not WORSE so wtf is she even talking about??

How did she even get the job if that's how she pitched the season?

i'm still baffled. i had hopes for s4 bc i think it was laura neal who gave us much of the eve/villaneve content last season? but that interview is so incredibly stupid...

Not surprised. I haven't even watched this season. So disappointed.

This is the writer's fault. They got too cocky with all the acclaim they got for their first season and didn't pay attention to why the audience enjoyed it in the first place. They side-stepped their lead character with unnecessary sloppy story arcs and it got stale and boring fast

Hope Hollywood pays attention to their mistake. Don't put Sandra Oh in the corner of her own damn show

I honestly hope Sandra gets another show worthy of her but who knows. Jodie's already got stuff lined up but it's crickets for Sandra, of course.

I hope she's being just being selective rather than it being an issue of lack of projects, but it's likely both. I loved her (and everyone else) in The Chair.

in her interview with trevor noah (doing promo for turning red) he asked her what her future looks like and she didnt exactly call it a break but she wanted to take time to be "discerning." so like the other commenter said its her biding her time to be selective in what projects she wants to do. but it does feel like shes pretty much done that her whole career after greys where its part her being selective and part not good enough projects popping up her way.

I've only seen the first season which I absolutely loved, and I think I'm just going to pretend that it was a limited series and avoid later seasons.

I only watched the first episode and pretended it was just a short movie.

Same. After the first season I was excited for more and then the rumors started and I was like oh, no thanks.

Upon further reflection, I do believe it is the worst series finale I have ever watched!! Answered basically zero questions, felt completely rushed but still managed to find the time to introduce new characters (this show was exceptionally terrible about that!!), had a "climactic" scene happen in montage where you saw basically nothing... thanks, i fucking hated it. We LAUGHED when the "The End" card came up.

It's not just the finale, though - the show had one good season, and has been on a downhill slide ever since (with this season just throwing us off a damn cliff), and for some reason I kept watching hoping it would get better! So that's on me.

I said something similar in the original post. At this point I deserved to be disappointed when they've been warning us all season.
