I read this earlier today and the fact that model casting wouldn't even touch a ANTM contestant is mind-boggling.

Like, what's the fucking point of even going on the show and go through all the behind-the-scenes bullshit if you can't even get a modeling gig??

I'm glad Angelea is speaking her truth, and WTF at Tyra's excuse when she was on Tamron Hall's show. 🙄

I started watching the show when I was in high school. They were on season three at that point. I quit watching during season 7 or 8. It was known even back then that none of them ever really got anywhere because no one in the industry wanted to work with them.

What’s mind-boggling to me, back then but especially now, is that contestants still do it. I get that people just want to be on TV or a quick route to fame. But if they do genuinely want to be models, how do any of them believe this is the path that will get them there?

Today might make a bit more sense in that maybe they just want to amass some kind of following, so they can become influencers (thinking of why people go on, like, The Bachelor), but back then? I don't understand it, because like you said, it was known even then.

i think that things have changed so much, trying to get on the show nowadays would make sense because the way social media works nows, people seem to be less elitist? don't get me wrong, it still happens and they would obviously still face gatekeepy comments, but now they could use the platform the show would give them to get gigs, become influencers, etc. i think winnie harlow is an excellent example of how different things are now

Yeah the winners barely had a chance but the non-winners sometimes did get luckier with getting runways and magazine spreads.

adrianne, tocarra and eva marcille were successful in reality tv mostly. i feel like ive only seen yaya and caridee but not for modelling necessarily. yaya acts and caridee is always in a commercial for something. oh also winnie harlow and nyle dimarco were on later seasons, i didnt watch those so idk if anyone else made it besides them.

fatima (from cycle 10, i think) was in an hermes campaign.

Elyse had said in her now defunct lj that she had to take all the ANTM photos out of her portfolio. She would go to castings and as soon as they saw the snake picture, they would immediately close her book and dismiss her.

And that's crazy to me bc her snake picture is objectively stunning. I know it's all about ANTM ~tainting the girls but I think it's fucked up to ignore what actually matters, which is their portfolio/audition.

Nicole with the long brown hair (season 7 maybe?) was a Forever 21 model, if that counts

YaYa DaCosta's the only one I can think of off the top of my head. She managed to carve out an acting career for herself. I've personally only seen her in Take the Lead and The Kids Are Alright, but she's been working steadily for over a decade now and rn she's the lead on a show on Fox.

The thing is that's been known too. I remember hearing from some of the earliest winners and contestants say that the ANTM associations is more a stigma than a help cause they see them as reality tv people rather serious models.

YEP, Adrienne Curry has been saying this since shortly after winning season ONE.
