I really wish I liked Lee Min Ho more than I do. I feel like he's way more popular than he is talented. He lacks a certain spark or charisma for me. There are so many amazing Korean actors who would have been perfect for this role and even though I read that he auditioned for it (his first time in 13 years), I just can't help but think if some lesser-known actor with the same performance auditioned, they would have been overlooked. He's just riding the wave he's on, as he should, but I can't really get into it.

I always hope to like and understand popular actors because they get such good opportunities and are in the spotlight so much that it sucks when you don't.

i think (at least i speak for myself) i know he’s a bad actor but i have a lot of good will for him from watching city hunter as one of my first dramas. i think he was decent in that but idk if i have rose-colored glasses on while remembering it. i think he picks “good” (not quality-wise, but talked-about) works tho that give him the little boosts of exposure he needs to stay top of mind in pop culture. i haven’t watched him in this yet but i think he can do creepy so i would hope he fits this role at least!

I totally understand the nostalgia factor. In all honesty, I think that's where 95% of his fanbase comes from because the dramas everyone loves the most are all 5 years old or beyond. I really liked him in Legends of the Blue Sea, so I was excited for his comeback... but The King was a flop for me. I love Kim Go Eun too, so I wasn't expecting to be so bored. I have seen so much love for him in City Hunter though. I'll have to check it out and see if that makes me like him more.

I love your icon, btw! Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo will always be one of my favorite, feel-good dramas.

i liked him in legend of the blue sea too, the king was awful (expected tho with that writer). i think he does comedic smart-ass type characters well, that’s where his charm comes through. when his character is just like a handsome chaebol and nothing else (heirs, the king, boys over flowers) is when usually it’s boring AF

i haven’t rewatched kim bok joo in a while, i always forget that’s my icon lol. know there’s issues with fatphobia but i still love the writing in general

I was actually going to say that about Lee Min Ho! I have always thought he was really good in comedy, but since Korea is so image-based, I think they want him in more "handsome" roles, which kills his charisma. I feel the same way about Jung Hae In. He plays an awesome second lead and lacks something when he's more than that... but he has a leading man face, so that's what he's going to be.
