Women's World #1 Ash Barty (25) surprisingly retired from tennis at age 25 while ranked No. 1. The announcement, made via her instagram account comes less than two months after winning the Australian Open for her third Grand Slam singles title.

Damn! I did not expect this but good on her anyways. Realising that you’re spent and that it’s time to stop takes a lot of guts. I’m sure she will have no issues pursuing anything else she sets her mind to.

This is a bummer for fans but clearly exactly what she wants - her ability to make the right call for herself no matter what is kind of inspiring tbh. I'm going to miss her though! The tour is hard enough at the best of times, and it was hard for her being away from Aus with the closed borders. Would love to see her back playing cricket domestically.

This is really surprising, but if she's sure about it and is happy with her decision, then good for her. This sport can be very draining both physically and mentally. I'm glad she's fulfilled her dream of winning Wimbledon and that she won the AO before retiring. The best of luck to her in the future!
