I’m so glad more women are coming out with how toxic Hollywood is. I remember when women would tell these stories likeit was some lighthearted fun story. I remember an interview with Sarah Michelle Gellar, where she talked about how casting for Buffy she wore long skirts, but they wanted to see her legs, to make sure they weren’t “bad”. She told it in a fun light hearted way, and like it was just another funny story. Knowing what we know now, fuck Joss Whedon.

Yeah, it's interesting and heartbreaking to hear these women re-contextualize these experiences. Sarah Polley recently did a podcast where she talked about how she had this funny party story she would tell about her worst date ever which was with Jian Ghomeshi when she was 16 that she would laugh at and looking back on, doesn't feel the need to frame it as a funny anymore.

When stories like this are told in a fun way, it makes most people hearing them not realize how fucked up it is, and normalizes that culture so it can continue to exist.

Yes, I had a friend that would always tell really embarrassing and sad stories where she made fun of herself or something reeeally harmful she experienced, always in groups with other people, at parties, always as a super funny anecdote. I know many ppl tell "funny" stories, have a self deprecating humour (Hell, I do it too and usually love it when others do it), but sometimes the bad is just so obvious, especially when they haven't healed and repeat their experiences.
I'm always glad and relieved to hear when people re-contextualise their experiences, as the user above you has stated. I get sad when I think about close people who are stuck in self desctruction, defend abuse or laugh it off. But everybody does things in their own pace.

She has a book coming out - or just come out? Essays, I think.

I saw that! I just wish I had more movies to enjoy by her, too.

I made my partner watch Dawn of the Dead the other day for her. She's not even that good in it, but I love that movie regardless.

Her acting career in general was very odd. I can't bring myself to watch Splice, but we'll always have the ONTD.

She's just finished directing another project 'Women Talking' - the book was really good so I think it'll be a banger.

Think she's over the acting side but seems to find directing/writing more up her alley.

this has prob been talked about a lot but it was always so painful to me to see how much weight SMG lost after the first/second season of Buffy, and even Alyson Hannigan too. They were both tiny to begin with but got so dramatically thin throughout the course of the show.

I was thinking about this the other day and it bummed me out. They were both so cute.

My wife always recalls meeting Amber Benson at a con during the show and being shocked at how thin she was because she looked so much bigger than SMG and Alyson on screen. I think if they were 100lbs that might be being generous
