I actually remember my last time out with friends before lock down, it was early march and you might see one or two people wearing a mask but at that point wearing a mask still seemed a little weird so we just all used a bunch of hand sanitizer throughout the day

Then I went a looooong time without seeing anyone unless we were six feet apart and both wearing masks

my birthday is feb 18th, and my bf and i flew to my hometown for my birthday and i remember we had a 30 second conversation of "what if we get covid lol" before we went. it was in the news, but not one person we saw that weekend talked about it. no one was taking it seriously.

i remember they thought it was through surfaces so masks weren't even *really* a thing until a month or so later. we were all just sanitizing and wearing gloves.

i work at a bar and they day before PROPER shutdown i was telling my coworker, "this is it...we're shutting down" and he did not believe me and like 3 hours later NYC called it. what a fucking time....

I remember we shouldn't wear medical masks because hospitals and doctors needed them and then I thought: No way will my country pass mask mandates where would we get cloth maks?

But they did and in 2021 medical masks started being required, no cloth masks allowed. By that point I had a lot of them of course. Again I thought: But those are not re-useable how will people afford that? They can't pass this law.

And they did.

We celebrated a friend's birthday at a vegan buffet style restaurant in early March and kept making jokes about washing our hands and not touching our faces. And then I didn't see them irl for like half a year...

I remember I wrapped a scarf around my face since I didn't have a mask when I went to the grocery store, and I heard a teenager say "she's weird". Little did they know everyone would start having to do that.

i remember for a good month or so my husband and i were the only practically the only ones walking around downtown LA (he would walk me to / from the clinic where i work), and that i'd be so annoyed by the lame 7pm applause that started following the awful NYC peak.
