he needs to keep this charade up as long as possible, let's put it that way. he's just not memorable. not heinous or anything. but wouldn't have gotten famous without the getup.
I am not denying that, I think he's extremely talented and I love his music and voice. His videos are beautiful. He reminds me of Chris Isaak in a way, his lyrics are poignant, etc. Neither of his other bands blew up like this one though, and only a few select people get a shot at the big time and get elevated to the status that he is now. He wouldn't have gotten there without the persona, and neither would someone like Lady Gaga. I'm just stating what I believe to be true. The theatrics absolutely have everything to do with his success.
He's like hot for a normal person, but for a celeb he's kinda average. I like his music a lot but I probably wouldn't have chosen to stan if it weren't for the aesthetics, which I love. The mask and the camp are definitely a huge part of his success.
