How the hell are so many of you so easily gaslit by men. How many of yo-you know what. I don't want to know. I'm not asking that. Considering you can be given 6 months+ for lying, 4 months isnt that bad. Hope he personally apologizes as he forks over the cash to everyone who's time he wasted investigating his bullshit story + apologizes to actual hate crime victims who now have to live under the tortuous cloud of suspicion he personally created for reporting what happened to them. He and his defenders can rot.

Yeah I don’t understand how people can’t see the severity of faking a crime and lying to police.

You really think it’s unfathomable for people here to feel hesitant that he did this when innocent Black men are incarcerated every day in this country?

People need to employ critical thinking when it comes to this case that is an anomaly. I can 100% understand people feeling like this if you just read the headline but if you look at the facts, and watch the interview he did, come on.

Quite frankly, I think a lot of people don’t like to be wrong after defending someone a lot. I was up and down defending him until the facts of how much he lied came out.

Never lie to the police. Even the slightest lie will give them reason to come down on you hard.

If a police officer asks you a question or wants to speak with you, all you should say is "I want a lawyer present".

I understand the compulsion to lie, but doing so will never end well.

I'm not sure why I'm getting replies as if I'm telling people to lie to the police. My opinion was very clearly stated. Not once am I excusing his actions.

This has nothing to do with that

If you don't get what I'm saying, that's okay.

To quote the great Huey Freeman: "Not every nigga who gets arrested is Nelson Mandela".
Do black men suffer from cruel and unfair punishment under the American judicial system? Of course! But Jussie Smollett is not one of them. I'd like to think that most Black people would get the distinction between a victim of institutional racism and a crazy liar who happens to be black.

What do you mean? I don't think my opinion was said vaguely?

We're talking about a guilty Black man here.
It's been over three years and all the proof that he's lying and delusional has been out. It was understandable to support him when the news first came out, even to give him the benefit of the doubt when his story started to crash a few weeks later, but it's not anymore. If you still feel hesitant about his guilt, it's because you're falling for his narcissistic bs and/or you didn't follow the story. It's not because he could be an innocent black man and you never know. He's not. Like, he's genuinely not innocent here.

I’m not saying he is innocent. I’m sympathetic to people who struggle with it. That’s all.

I see a lot of people saying he shouldn't get such a harsh sentence and saying it's somehow unjust but...more than just faking the crime, he puts the lives of other gay men at risk with every lie he tells. It's hard enough for anyone to be out, but especially for black men as there are still a lot of homophobic attitudes in the black community regarding this. But more than that, it gives people who already don't need any extra excuse to be homophobic the ability to make things harder for the gay community whenever they try to get justice for the crimes perpetrated against them ( ... )
