Absolutely absurd to jail him for this, no wonder American prisons are full
For some reason I think he is telling the truth??? Maybe I am a clown

I too am at a loss. A loss that resembles a shamble of shattered glass. The truth is out there.gif

That comment is a lie. I know he is guilty; my very first comment confirms that.

I flipped for a second after reading comments. I didn't feel like being called a racist for not believing this Black gay as a White Gay™️

My bad.

Honestly there’s too much evidence suggesting he paid those two guys to attack him and the fact he knew them. He also went overboard with the description of the attack, he could’ve said he was punched by two guys but he added the hate mail, noose, bleach, people recognising a C list tv actor in the dead of winter at 2am in Chicago. Plus the guys “attacking” him were black too. Makes zero sense.

plus the fact that he identified both his attackers as white. i could have bought the other explanations but this slip up solidified for me that he orchestrated the whole thing.

Please don’t believe this man. Let’s remember that after faking all of this, he went on to proclaim himself the gay Tupac for fighting back at his “attackers”. In the same sentence talked about how the doctors cleared him to perform (like who the hell cares if you can perform after allegedly being beat up and having chemicals poured on you?) Then threw out that they were yelling MAGA knowing how sensitive black people were about Trump supporters during that time. All while knowing these two men the entire time.

It’s too much of a coincidence that he knew the guys who did it. That’s only one of the fishy things but it’s the most telling/the reason people don’t have any doubt that he did it.

Not that I think he’s innocent (tbh I’m not familiar enough) but a guy I grew up with was killed by two teenagers that he knew (thought he was friends with) who attacked him to steal his truck and left him for dead.

Man that’s awful.

He has undoubtedly made things worse for himself and his behavior has been horseshit, but I think people are under the impression that there was an abundance of physical evidence against him when really the most damning evidence against him is his own foolishness. We know he played it up for the police, and that he knew the brothers before hand, but otherwise all we have to go on are his bizarre embellishments, his reluctance to cooperate with police, and his description of one of the attackers as white ( ... )

I am not arguing with you that politics might have affected his sentence.

But his case was unsealed as a call by multiple respected national newspapers for more transparency.

The special prosecutor was assigned to look into the case and decided to reopen it because (according to him) the state's attorney's office "did abuse its discretion in deciding to drop charges and put out false or misleading public statements about why it did so."

I like to blame Tramp for stuff as much as the next guy, but this seems like a case of a corrupt office abusing its power for personal gain + someone hustling for Smollett ( who, in addition to being black and gay, is rich and well connected)

Oh I agree and absolutely Foxx handled everything so, so badly every step of the way. I worded that poorly - I didn’t mean to imply that the Trump administration was behind the assignment of Webb - I only mention the Trump connections as an example of the weirdness and noise surrounding the case that I think make it understandable for someone to have trouble following along.

Oh gotcha. I reread your comment just now and see how i misunderstood it. My apologies.

This may help explain why most people don’t believe him anymore

What a wild read

First he sent a fake hate crime letter to himself with crushed Tylenol which is a federal crime that he got off the hook. But, that didn’t garner enough attention, so he staged the attack.

His wealthy man connections almost got him off the first time but then that raised so much of an uproar of special treatment that a special prosecutor became involved.

He could’ve quietly made a plea deal but instead he chose to lie under oath and smart off to the sentencing judge.

He seems like he might benefit from some counseling vs county jail time
