the VF article is the wildest celebrity profile I have read since rpattz/microwave spaghetti I'm DYING at some of the quotes:

This time it’s multiple cries, and it’s unmistakable. I’ve got two kids. That’s a baby. And I can tell by the frozen look on my host’s face that she heard it too. So I brace myself to ask the strangest question of my career: Do you have another baby in your life, Grimes?

“I mean, when people say I’m a class traitor that is not…an inaccurate description,” she admits.

“Personally, I don’t think ‘manic pixie dream girl’ is an insult. I exactly identify with all of those terms. I understand it’s supposed to be a critique of certain things, but then I challenge that critique.”

As the Tesla beeps and begins to park itself, Musk sums up his position: “I just don’t like things to be messy and anime.”

highly highly recommend giving it a read

omfg I am in tears reading this. the part where Elon questions if she's a synthesized companion created for him in a simulated world...the part where she says he has poverty line living standards...saying she could be a radical Marie Antoinette...I can't take this LMFAO

the amount of “progressive” rich white girls who’ve made it clear they relate to marie antoinette ever since the pandemic started has really been 🧐🧐🧐

Like.... why isn't he the perfect simulated partner for her? Because women are still objects to be perceived by men.

I will say the comment on the manic pixie dream girl is very much one I agree with her on. And I feel dirty on.

(The MPDG trope shows a nuero divergent woman. Where it fails is that it shows men loving that, when that’s just not true)

The problem was never with the girl, but rather with the narrative structure that positions the girl as a catalyst to change in the man. She shows up, she complicates his life, makes him ~realise things, and then leaves (sometimes dies). She is not a complete person but a plot point.

The other issue is that while we might recognise elements of neurodivergence in her manic, pixie status, because she is part of the plot and not a character in her own right, she is never allowed to be boring or down. She must always be whimsical and freeing (not "free", importantly, but "freeing" -- for him).

Thank you! I am confused when I see people criticize women by calling them MPDG. MPDG is not a person! It is an overused plot device.

There is value to discussing how real nuerodivergent women are pressured into presenting themselves a certain way to be "accepted."

But can we please let individual "quirky" women be! They are trying their best!!!!!
