[Spoiler (click to open)]I could not stop crying for the last two chapters of the film, which I was not expecting at all, lol. While I don't have Julie's commitment issues, I am absolutely lost in terms of what to "do" with my life, so I related pretty hard to her in that regard. I think it tried to cover a little too much ground, and I wish Julie would have stayed the focus, but i know I will be thinking about it for a while. I don't know that I want to watch it again, though, because like I said, the last twenty+ minutes just killed me. His whole monologue, just... ugh.
We watched The King of Comedy (Hulu) for the first time the other night, and really liked that, too! It's super dark, but with a great sense of humor that makes it watchable despite the jarring subject matter, and some excellent performances from DeNiro and Sandra Bernhard, who was perfectly cast. I was bummed to see that post about Jerry Lewis earlier after having just watched this, but hey, I guess I'm glad he doesn't seem to have a lot of other notable film roles that have stood the test of time. And omg, for all the things that Joker straight "homaged" from this film, you think that movie would have been a lot better than it was.
Continuing our Martin Scorsese streak, we also watched George Harrison: Living in the Material World at rhcp's suggestion, but I am gonna wait to elaborate on that one til I see her around. In summary: it was okay, but felt oddly superficial for a 3 1/2 hour doc about one person!
