I used to listen to MFM, but yeah, as I got older I sort of veered away from that sort of true crime schtick. I remember once listening to the episode where they covered Irena Sendler (a Polish woman who saved Jewish children during WWII) and my husband walked in and listened for a moment and then was like "So...their favorite murder today is...the Holocaust?" And I was like...yeah...you have a point.

I do still partake in some true crime. I think in some instances, it can be beneficial - like the Kristin Smart case, and how the podcast Your Own Backyard brought new attention to the 20-year-old case and actually helped bring forward new evidence / witnesses. Her murderer is in jail now and awaiting his trial, and he might not be if that podcast had never happened.

I'm interested in psychology and there is something comforting to me specifically about learning about murder and forensics. It shouldn't help with my anxiety surrounding my own mortality, but somehow it does. There is definitely predatory true crime out there, though. And you have to wade through a lot of that to find anything that's worth your attention and consideration.
