those interview highlights are on point. it's crazy to think that the pope rip was so controversial to the point of being career-ending. she took it all on the chin and she really wasn't wrong. like, even if there wasn't any child abuse going on in the church, the catholic church would still be a historical force of evil. the pope literally split the americas in two and gave half to spain and half to portugal, and look what followed.
also, if any of you (especially women) ever feel the urge to shave your head, go for it. i know hair can be very important, and being to let it and what it represents go is very invigorating.
the only thing i disliked about shaving my head is that i suddenly saw my own resemblance to my brother lmao. but it was a great experience for me. i might do it again this summer.
i'm currently on a 5-to-7-year hair growing process (i'm teaching myself to be ok with my natural hair color; i've always dyed it) which will culminate in me shaving it all off and tattooing my head.
lol I already look *startlingly* like my brother even with regular long hair. when that gender-swap Snapchat filter came out my brother and I each took a picture and showed our parents and they legit thought they were pictures of each other
with the amount of truly horrific fucking atrocities the church has committed in ireland alone, ripping the picture was the tamest protest too. she would've been well within her right to go abt it much worse.
This. Even Madonna, of all people, was like "that's too far". It was just a picture! I think what really upset people it's that that small gesture forced them to confront reality, that the church is not untouchable. I'm from a mostly catholic country and was happy to see so many people posting pics of their pets in answer to the pope's bs.
That, and he wasn't Italian, traveled extensively so a lot of people saw him, and he was credited with helping end Communism in Eastern Europe - that last one is obviously hugely appealing to a lot of people. Despite being the head of a church whose huge abuses were being revealed on a scale like never before during his papacy, he somehow managed to stay popular.
