Rachel Zegler shades Ansel Elgort by cropping him out of photo

Rachel Zegler (20) has made a sly dig at her West Side Story co-star Ansel Elgort, who has been accused of sexual assault.

A fan posted a photo of Rachel in an embrace with Steven Spielberg as Ansel can be seen in the background.

i want to say that another reason people are coming at her so hard for the crop is that earlier this week, her, rita, and ari’s responses to ansel’s rape accusations were released and there was a lot to be desired for what they said. no they’re not responsible for his behavior, but when these two responses are put together, it looks weird.

tw / rape mention
.
honestly, i think i preferred it when y’all were mum on the topic of ansel elgort cause this is bad. like the first time yall directly address ansel elgort being a rapist and it gets brushed away as “no one really knows what happened” + “wrong to take sides”? https://t.co/sEUiHYdRyt pic.twitter.com/z09ZXruzGG

”I preferred when y’all stayed mum”

Should they get asked again and say “no comment” then y’all will criticize them for not believing victims and not doing enough.

Meanwhile Ansel and the male crew aren’t getting asked anything or being pressured giving a good PR statement. Must be nice to not have to carefully think out your words for the internet police.

the quote came from the issue with the cover rachel is posting, though. i think people are allowed to be disappointed in a wishy washy reply of ‘i hope the (alleged) victim AND rapist are allowed peace’ when directly confronting her. steven and ansel aren’t on social media so ‘they’re getting away with it’ in the sense that people can’t knock on their virtual door.

the incident is obviously not their fault, but i do get fans having a long paper trail of unforced errors on her part.

She didn’t say anything about peace and mentioned “I hope they are given opportunities to answer for themselves”

The article actually mentions that Spielberg declined to comment on the topic

How come the tweeter and everybody else choosing to ignore that part? Where is the “ Spielberg doesn’t support victims!” outcry? Unlike Rachel and Ariana he is a huge power player with NOTHING to lose in comparison but y’all concentrate on the women to be perfect. 🤨

in a reply, they said they would have preferred the decline in commenting as spielberg did. i don't really agree and honestly, my bad for choosing a tweet with commentary outside of the pull quotes.

i apologize for the paraphrasing earlier, when i meant rachel’s quote could be interpreted as extending grace to both ansel and the victim, which has people heated. i think hers is the far ahead of rita’s statement.

Yeah when I read it in the original post I kept thinking “this isn’t as bad as people are making it out to be”. Like I thought Rita had the worst take which is kinda annoying cause she’s the eldest of 3.

But people are clearly BEC with her and looking to keep that energy going. She can be cringe but she’s young, having success and latina/women so knock her down a peg.

ONTD loves to proclaim how they “hate men” (especially white men) but women have always been knocked more on here.

Lol she’s actually getting more grilled than Ansel just because he knows to stay offline.

I mean compared to Rita and Ariana's terrible responses, Rachel's isn't as bad.

I also don't read that and get the feeling that she's defending him or absolving him.

which is why i don't think she should have replied to picture with the cropping. she’s very online i think she needs validation through that and saw the backlash from the quote and this was an attempt to turn things back in her favor, which she didnt need to because all the other replies are positive and that pic was posted without a caption. turn on ‘notifs from followers only’ and keep it moving or give your twitter to your team.
