This was easily the best thing I watched in 2021, and I could literally talk about it all day. Like, I am almost through with a rewatch, I'm going to the IMAX rooftop concert screening next weekend, my Spotify algorithm has whiplash, I've watched most available related media, and I would watch like 10 more hours, easily. I think it's a combination of factors: the level of accessibility, the creativity, the fashion, and of course the music on top of that. At any rate... strong recommend.

The concert in IMAX sounds amazing, especially if they use the remastered footage.

For me I'd forgotten what their music really was/was about. I feel like 'Across The Universe' burnt me out for a while, and in college I only revisited George's music. Watching this you see the creative process and feel it in a way that's irreplaceable. Artists truly at work!

It's amazing to think they have such a short lifespan as a band but you can listen to so many different styles of music from the same artists under the same name!

Yeah, I grew up listening to them because my parents loved them, so I was always a (casual) fan, but I guess hearing them so much made me a little numb to how amazing they were. 200+ wildly different songs in seven years, and there are maybe 15 I don't love?? Fucking incredible. And this doc has got me listening to their influences and their solo work and revisiting the music of their peers and people who covered them and that's great, too.

And tbh, I am apparently in the minority in that I am not a George fan after seeing this... passive aggression is a big pet peeve of mine, lol. But I do love a lot of his songs!!

Absolutely! Few and far between are artists that can go from a song like 'Help!' to 'Within Without You' to 'Let It Be' without a slump or two. Their albums each have hits, which is insane. I agree that the series createdsa lot of context especially for their solo work. Finding out George was in the States with the sort of bluesy-rock players makes sense why he comes back and plays something. James Taylor is on Apple so it makes sense to connect the two ( ... )

feeling undervalued in a creative atmosphere sucks.

I do totally agree there, and can see why he was pressed. It must be hard to break a dynamic that has held for a decade, for everyone involved. Plus from what I've read (and I could be wrong, people write a lot of conflicting things!), he and Patti were fighting right before he quit, which I am sure did not help matters.

I just finished watching the 1964 Maysles doc from when the Beatles first went to America + the making of doc that went along with it. It is absolutely fascinating to think it was less than 5 years from Ed Sullivan show debut to the making of Let It Be. Less than five years! That is lifetimes worth of experiences, my head would have exploded.

Yeah I can agree that it looked like he and Patti were not doing well - when she showed up it was kind of like she was there, then she wasn’t. Out of the four WAGS she seemed the most nonchalant.

Yeah, it’s a combination of the quick turn around and the lack of duds that is really amazing. It’s truly impossible to imitate that, I can’t think of many modern acts that turn stuff over with that frequency without a dud, or people with that catalog that don’t take a break!

This is stupidly late I know but tbh I think the reason Ringo came across that way was because he already had his own freak out in 1968. He was an alcoholic at this point so I wouldn't say he was more stable than the others.

Admittedly out of the four of them he's always kind of been the one I've seen as the most 'adult' and neither of my parents really loved him. I guess I've always seen him at face value. It makes sense though, there are so many kinds of alcoholics and I know a lot of people turn to alcohol and drugs when faced with this sort of pressure and fame.

Also I waited three months to post this after saying I would, never late!

I agree. I actually think John and Paul may have been able to work some of their problems out if George hadn't been acting a sort of spoiler. Paul and George knew each other and were friends first, before the band. They lived near each other for some time in the same council housing project and both went to the Liverpool Institute(just saw and interesting thing about their test scores that got them in, Paul was top 1 percent at 137, George did well too at 115, it allowed working class boys the chance at getting a grammar school education, the school was so good some people who could afford to sent their sons to a private school sent them to the Inny instead). They met probably about 2 or 3 years before Paul and John did. They were close in age, only 9 months apart, but Paul was a year ahead in school. Paul got George into the band by suggesting him to John ( ... )

Damn you make a lot of great points. I feel like I knew a lot of that but I find myself really only thinking of them at this point as an adult. I know I also have a little bit of my stan goggles on, which softens his attitude.

I also think the weird relationship those three had with each other. I really do not think George ever let John go. After John's passing it 'All Those Years Ago' being a point in which the remaining three worked together is very befitting. In the end the hero worship George started with ended up shortchanging him. I wonder if John had outlived George if he'd have felt the same. Knowing John probably not though lol.

I think their dynamic is truly unique because it was organic and they tried very hard to be organic. You can't make these dynamics up, but without it I don't think we would've had the last few albums. Thanks for your comment <3
