ONTD Original: What was the ONTD POST that made you say ONTD is for you?

Jan 16, 2022 15:19

If you are familiar with the podcast, "Las Culturistas," co-hosted by ONTD fav, Bowen Yang, then this question should sound familiar! Each week Bowen and Matt ask their guests to discuss their formative cultural experiences with this question.

ONTD was created on April 15 1999. Over the past years we've seen members come and go, reemerge (sometimes with different usernames), or introduce themselves after being long-time lurkers. We have had our own celebrity interactions, been included in media publications, and have seen many of our members go on to achieve success in their personal lives. So ONTD, what was your formative ONTD experience? What made you say ONTD is for you?

I'll get the ball roll by saying I discovered ONTD in either 2006 or 2007 when looking up information on a Korean singer/actor named Rain. A friend of mine had just gotten me into one of his dramas and I wanted to know more about him. One of the top posts that showed up in my Google search was ONTD. I can't remember what the post was, but from then on I was hooked. ONTD was a ferocious place at that time and I was too intimated to post and so I happily became a lurker.

Then everything changed in January 2009 with a Degrassi: The Next Generation post. People were coming for the looks of one the characters, who I happened to know in real life. That's when I finally snapped, requested to join the community, and my fingers got to typing. No more a lurker, I became a full-fledged member of ONTD to cuss people out! Couldn't think of a more fitting entry to this community.

So ONTD, excited to hear your own stories! And since I know ONTD is a visual community, I've added a few historical pictures for you.
