‘Belfast’ and ‘The Power of the Dog’ Were Left Out of Crucial SAG Noms - Where Does the Oscar Race Stand?

January 12, 2022 The SAG Awards nominations came out and there were of course surprises, both of those snubbed and who did receive acknowledgement. I'll focus on the film side, but there were definitely TV surprises (the lack of Pose, etc).
- Kristen Stewart - an early frontrunner for the best actress race for 'Spencer', and a Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominee, totally shut out by her peers. It doesn't bode well for her for upcoming awards, but maybe BAFTA and The Academy will be kinder (honestly anything to not have Nicole Kidman there, but oh to dream).
- The best picture frontrunner 'The Power of the Dog' was shut out of the best ensemble category (which isn't always bad - the same happened a few years back with 'The Shape of Water'), as was critical darling 'West Side Story' .
- best supporting actor was a random ass mess, with 'Belfast' getting shut out despite their actors getting nods in the past. Instead, Bradley Cooper popped out of nowhere with a nomination for 'Licorice Pizza', and very unfortunately, so did Jared Leto for 'House of Gucci'.
- best supporting actress had some surprises too: Cate Blanchett came outta left field with a nod for 'Nightmare Alley' while critical fave Aunjanue Ellis from 'King Richard' was shut out.
- finally, I can only imagine all the A-list starpower is the reason 'Don't Look Up' got an ensemble nod because that was some cheesy ass acting from most of the lot.
