Bob Saget and James Avery were the iconic TV dads of my childhood, tough to know they're both gone.

I still can’t believe James is gone. J Cole’s mention of Uncle Phil being “the only father that he ever knew” really sums up how his character truly had an impact on a whole generation.

As old as I am now, I still feel like this about singers. Aretha Franklin raised me together with Aunt Diana Ross, my sister Janet Jackson paved the way for me.
I have no idea why that is so, I'm a white german woman.

I was just thinking this last night when I saw someone mention that we're getting to be the age that the people we grew up watching are now passing.

I'd say "do not speak that evil into existence" but it's gonna happen one day and I'm going to be a blubbery MESS when it does.

Hard agree. I have had the privilege of amazing parents irl but these TV shows were a big part of my life. My mom admits she was raised by TV (Laverne and Shirley and Maude were some of her best friends), and even I sort of was in a latchkey way, so I’m sure there’s a lot of people my age who feel the same. I’m grateful Reginald VelJohnson and Tim Reid are still around; I hope they’re doing well and are happy/healthy.

Yeah exactly, I also have amazing IRL parents but there was still something so comforting about sitcom parents, especially in the shows that my family and I would typically watch together.

And I was just thinking Reginald and Tim Reid better be holding on, heh.

Uncle Phil was trending again on Twitter this morning, and I felt sad all over again.
