Hate it. If I ever had a kid without being married idc if I have a hyphenated last name and hate it, my kid is getting it too not the father’s. I’m too traumatized by my mom being a fool with men to ever name my kid after one tbh.
i don't get it either. I sat my partner down very early in the relationship and told him i'd never take his last name and if we had kids, i needed them to have my last name instead of his. His last name is a mess of consonants and he has to spell it out multiple times a day, so he is perfectly fine with this arrangement.
Whenever i mention this to other people though, they all freak out about how i'm emasculating my partner by refusing to let him pass his name on.
For me I think its too legitify that it's his. Women like Olivia def want everyone to know it's his and that they are together (granted how long will it last is another thing).
Nothing says legit like a baby and that it's carries the father's name.
Most women seem to do this. Halsey also gave her baby the father's surname, even though they had barely dated before deciding to have a kid. Kate Winslet's kids all have different surnames than her, so do Kate Hudson's, off the top of my head.
Yeah but it carries more weight in messier relationships. Plus I also women do this to say "don't forget the child is yours too" to add responsibility.....although thats not always a guarantee lol.
All all Jane Birkin's daughters have different last names too lol!
Kate Winslet’s youngest has her last name because his given names are Bear Blaze and the child’s father uses a dumbass stage name so she figured the baby needed a fighting chance on the playground.
It’s definitely to legally state it’s his kid because most states put it up to the man to challenge paternity and if he doesn’t do so within a reasonable amount time he basically has to accept paternity regardless of what a dna test says..
That’s what I’m saying but she can put his name on it and he can still challenge paternity with a DNA test but if he waits too long to do so then he’s fucked.
Depends on the state. Like I know NY doesn’t fuck around and you can’t just play daddy for 5 years then decide “nm I’m gonna challenge paternity and be done with this kid” because that’s damaging for the child.
