At least Andrew and Emma were still dating in ASM2 as far as I recall? They were never going to have to film together broken up anyways even if Andrew did get a third film.

yeah they stayed together for about a year after TASM2 and broke up in late 2015. Emma would start dating her future husband in 2017

the Vanity Fair piece I read said it was because of distance and their schedules. when they broke up he was shooting a Martin Scorsese movie in Taiwan and she was getting ready to shoot La La Land in LA. he was nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars in 2017 and she of course won Best Actress that year.

Emma’s husband is a director and producer, and they develop and work on projects together so I guess it’s easier for them to line their schedules up

I remember reading that he cheated on her because he was going through stuff with the movie he was filming…I liked Andrew a lot though so I didn’t want to believe it

Scorsese encouraged Andrew to go full method when they were filming Silence and he took a kind of monk boot camp with a vow of silence so he didn't communicate with her for 6 weeks, not even by text or email. There were supposedly other things that happened, but I've always thought that was a part of her disillusionment with him.

He's been dead to me since he eagerly worked with Mel Gibson.

Same. It's BS. You know Charlie Hunnam did the same thing to his GF when he filmed The Lost City of Z in the jungle in S. America. Then he lied about it and said he couldn't email or text because it was too hard to get a signal.
