I think she just takes over each scene she is in and over-exaggerates her characters a bit TOO much at this point, thinking that that will always be funny.

this like really hammy overacting thing you’re talking about has become her default mode on SNL and in her other acting work. I think people gave Kristen Wiig a lot of shit during her last few years on SNL and it wasn’t unwarranted, but she at least proved she was a capable actress outside of sketch work. Kate just plays the same in everything, on SNL and Ghostbusters and Spy Who Dumped Me.

By comparison Aidy and Cecily (who I also think should have left last season) have different modes they tap into and are able to get lost in a character

Agreed. I've watched Aidy in Shrill and Cecily in Schmigadoon! and Kristen in a bunch of things, and they all have range. I really liked Kate at the beginning, but it's just overkill at this point. It's very one-note.
