Here are my thoughts on why male nudity doesn't get awards acclaim:

A) Women's naked bodies are more titillating to audiences (and likely Oscar voters) than men's so that's a factor.

B) Male vulnerability is not necessarily defined in nudity the way female vulnerability is.

C) As much as I want to support Kirsten Dunst, knowing Butterfinger Cantfindthesnath bares his extra lizard leg in The Power of the Dog actively repels me from watching it.

I also think mostly-male, older, straight Academy voters actively feel uncomfortable with male frontal nudity. I don't know if it's so much about the actor's vulnerability as the audience's unwillingness to see it.

ETA -- But I agree vis-a-vis vulnerability generally. I think for women it's called "vulnerability" when it's really "old dudes want to see boobs" whereas with men it's still almost... silly or shameful in their eyes?

What they consider full frontal for men is not the same thing as it is for women. Which pisses me the fuck off.

A hint of a dick is 'full frontal' while exploiting the shit out of female actors is beyond grotesque.

Yeah full-frontal is misleading. It's really more cameo appearance/blink it and miss it.

We all know voters in these things like gifts, right? Naked women are like a nicely wrapped present, you know the pretty paper and everything neatly folded into a box and topped with a bow, And even if the present inside is not for you, you can appreciate the work that went into the wrapping.

Naked men are like a gift bought last minute that soneone shoved into their bag next to last week’s lunch like “here, *slams gift on table* “I got you this”. And although it’s for you, you kind of get the feeling they bought it so they could use it as well.

That’s my theory.
