December 9, 2021 - Kirsten Dunst was interviewed by Deadline to talk about her role in 'The Power of the Dog'.
- The interview eventually turns its focus to the predatory nature of Hollywood and the #MeToo movement and Dunst says that having her mom always with her and friends outside the industry made her feel like she was always protected.
- The actress then continued to talk about Harvey Weinstein, who produced some of her early movies: "I’m sorry, everybody knew Harvey was who he was. There was literally no surprise. I remember once my manager saying, ‘Harvey doesn’t think you like him,’ and I was like, ‘So what? I’m not kissing his ass!’ I always knew he was kind of gross, even my young teenage self knew that. I just thought, ‘I’ll keep my distance.’".
- Kirsten added that having Sofia Coppola as a role model helped her have the confidence to feel like she didn't need to please everyone, though their movie ('Marie Antoinette') not being well received at the time os its release got under her skin: “It bummed me out because it was so personal to me. I thought, Did I let everyone down?" Now she thinks the movie was ahead of its time.
- Always picks her projects based on the director and wants to direct when her kids are older.
