I’m not entirely surprised. More people are likely to watch a movie for two hours than commit to reading a book for longer than that.
Heck even comics. How many people who regularly watch marvel or DC do you think have actually picked up a comic or graphic novel before?

I started reading them after seeing the first movie then read/watched as they came out after that. For a friend who hadn’t seen it, I bought him the book set first (used, but in good condition) and then he saw the movies.

I genuinely enjoy the movies though. As the books got longer it became obvious the adaptions were never going to fit in so much information so there was always going to need to be changes and omissions but as I reread them alongside my friend before watching them, while some parts are weak, I can see they tried their best to keep the storyline consistent with the time they had to work with.

I won’t give more money to JK in the future, and honestly, the first Fantastic Beasts movie was horrid IMO so the temptation isn’t even there, but I’ll watch this. I already pay for HBO Max so it’s not like I’m paying anything more than I do for all their other content and I like the main cast.
